Barbecued Tofu

This easy to make tofu can be made up and kept in the fridge. Assemble in a sandwich or put on a salad. It is a great low fat option to have on hand. By simply adding Massel’s beef style bouillon to your favorite barbecue sauce, you add a depth of flavor that kicks up the tofu to a whole new level. If you like it spicy, add some red pepper flakes to the sauce.

(Serves: 2)
  • 1 Massel Beef Style Ultracube
  • 1 ½ cup of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 block (14 0z) of extra firm tofu
  1. Slice the block of tofu into 9 slices. Place them on a double layer of paper towels or a clean tea towel (non-fuzzy) and place another double layer over them. Press firmly with your hands to remove as much moisture as possible. Let them sit on the absorbent material while you assemble the sauce.
  2. In a sauce pan, heat BBQ sauce, Massel Beef style bouillon cube, and hot sauce. When the bouillon cube is dissolved, remove from heat.
  3. Preheat oven to 425F/220C. Cover a cookie sheet with foil. Brush one side of each slice of tofu with a thin layer of sauce and place it on the pan sauce-side down. Spread remaining sauce on the tops and sides of the tofu. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, until tofu is firm and just beginning to brown at the corners.
