Nothing is more fun than playing with your food and Halloween is the best excuse to make fun shapes, creative recipes and m(y)ummy dishes out of seemingly ordinary ingredients. We’re giving these Halloween treats some tricks you can play on unsuspecting hungry mouths. You never knew food could be so spooky!
Savory Chickpea Pancake
For this savory dish, you can make them as thin as crepes or as thick as pancakes, you are the mastermind in this laboratory. To give them some holiday flare, add some orange, black or green food coloring and dig out your best Halloween shaped metal cookie cutter (like Jack-o-lantern or bat shaped), and use it as a mold on your hot skillet to bring your creation to life. Once one side is golden brown, carefully remove the mold and flip it over to finish cooking. An easy and memorable dinner you’ll want to brag about.
Homestyle Potato Wedge Fingers
It’s almost scary how fast and simple it is to turn regular potatoes into some fingers with fake blood (ketchup). Follow this recipe for Homestyle Potato Wedges, and with a spoon, scoop out a little indent on one end of the wedge to look like a finger nail. Arrange your ‘fingers’ with ketchup to resemble fake blood and have a sinfully great time nibbling away.
Easy Cheesy ‘Toxic Waste’ Pasta
Brew up this “contaminated” pasta in your biggest cauldron, you’re going to need a lot of it! Little mutants (and big mutants) are going to ask for seconds. Follow this Easy Cheesy Pasta recipe and add some drained spinach and green food dye to the end of the process. Healthy and wonderfully fun to eat, what more could you ask for?
Jack-O-Lantern Stuffed Peppers
Move over make-your-own pizza night, carve-your-own stuffed pepper night is the new creative meal in town. All the enjoyment of personalizing your own dinner, without much effort! Cut off the top just as you would a pumpkin and take out the seeds, keeping the peppers intact. Now, carve your own artwork right into the pepper, make a funny face, or get intricate! Stuff with filling and bake accordingly. Just remember not to carve out too much, you want your filling to stay inside your spooky peppers!
